Be part of the solution!

The ‘Saving Our Blue’ campaign aims to educate and encourage the public to stop littering, reduce waste generation, and opt for alternative products to single-use items.

The negative effects of littering are severe, with littered plastic harming marine species, impacting coastal economies and entering the human food chain. The rapid increase in the use of microbeads and single-use plastics has increased the problem.

Unless action is taken now, our seas face an uncertain future. If no action is taken by 2050, our oceans and seas could contain more plastic than fish!

Following the local ban on the importation of SUPs in January 2021, and the subsequent ban on the sale of SUPs in January 2022, the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness (MEEC) continues to build awareness through the ‘Saving Our Blue’ Campaign.

The “Saving Our Blue” campaign seeks to address the main causes of the problem through:

  • Educating and engaging citizens,
  • Collaborating with NGOs and the private sector,
  • Promoting a unified call to action and supporting a national movement to influence change.
